The project, #Thessaloniki_Tourism_Blockchain, driven by current developments and adopting best practices from international experience (both in the tourism sector and across various fields), while taking into account local characteristics and capabilities, aims to achieve the smart digital transformation of the city’s tourism offering. By leveraging the advantages of modern peer-to-peer networking technologies (blockchain), it proposes the creation of a "Digital Thessaloniki" that meets the needs of both the digital and the physical visitor (providing unified information, immersive guided tours of the city, virtual explorations, access to exhibition and event materials, among others). In this context, beyond establishing a secure digital repository for the city of Thessaloniki, the creation of a unified digital tourism card through networking structures is expected to enable visitors to access bundled service packages offered by various sectors and organizations within the city’s tourism infrastructure, at an overall cost lower than the sum of individual services.

The implementation and operation of #Thessaloniki_Tourism_Blockchain — both the platform and the management body — is expected to position the city of Thessaloniki and the Region of Central Macedonia as pioneers in the tourism sector.
